Fun start to the NHL pre-season

Florida Panthers (repeat as) Stanley Cup Champions 2025

Oilers challenged in 2025 against Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers

For the second year in a row the Oilers made a run at the Florida Panthers. Pundits are even calling the odds pretty high for a third time in a row.

Of course that's the Vegas line and plenty of other organizations are prepared to take their place. Here's a compendium of the Oilers season from December of 2024 to June 2025.

As they approached the final, flying high against the Stars for the Division, it looked like everything was coming up roses for the Oilers until Zach Hyman injured his forearm. It was too big a loss for what came next.

The second run at the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final was over in six games. Edmonton couldn't capitalize on home ice advantage. The Panthers had an unstoppable offense with half a dozen forwards bringing their NHL 'A' game, like Sam Reinhart, Brad Marchand, the captain Sergei Barkov, and Matthew Tkachuk, and Bobrovsky towering in goal.

The NHL has it on record including this five minute summary of the game six cup winner: Edmonton Oilers - Florida Panthers - Jun 17, 2025 | NHL.com

Jun 17  Game 6, returned to Ft. Lauderdale.  Sam Reinhart Scored 4 Times!

No sign of a McDavid signing

How important is it if McDavid signs before next June's Oilers Stanley Cup victory? (Oops did I spill the beans?)

Hockey patrol NHL says, Oilers initially offered 4 x 17 (and would have gone to 8 years).
